Guest edited by Wu Ning, Srijana Joshi and Yi Shaoliang

About this issue

This special issue of Nomadic Peoples, Vol. 29, Issue 1 on 'Pastoral resilience and transformation in the Hindu Kush Himalaya' examines how pastoralism in the HKH region has evolved over the last three to four decades. It sheds light on the vulnerabilities and resilience of pastoral societies in the context of the HKH region. It presents cases of 'pastoral resilience and transformation' supported by evidence on major drivers of change in pastoralism including climate change, globalisation and market economy, protection, human-wildlife conflicts, rangeland functions and values, governance, politics and policies, new science and technologies, cultural assimilation, and use of local wisdom for adaptation and livelihood diversification.
