The pastoral sector in Italy, which has been in crisis since the latter half of the last century, is currently facing numerous challenges. Among these, difficulties in accessing land are caused by innumerable factors. These include severe fragmentation of landownership, excessive bureaucracy for livestock farmers, generational renewal, the encroachment of forests, difficulties in commercialising products, the spread of predators and, not least, legal issues, which are evident signs of the suffering of the pastoral system.
