A new horizon: Guidelines for regenerative, inclusive and climate resilient mountain tourism policy for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Creators
Description
This technical note presents a visionary framework for regenerative, inclusive, and climate-resilient mountain tourism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Pakistan. Developed collaboratively by ICIMOD, Kohsar University Murree, and other regional stakeholders, it outlines strategic recommendations to address ecological degradation, community marginalization, and climate vulnerability in KP’s iconic mountain destinations. Key proposals include the development of a Tourism Management Information System (TMIS), promotion of low-impact tourism, establishment of Destination Management Organisations (DMOs), and community-led stewardship. The document serves as a roadmap to transform KP into a global model for sustainable mountain tourism, balancing economic growth with environmental preservation and social equity.
