The nutrition garden

Creators

Description

A nutrition garden is a small, biodiverse, and climate-resilient food production system designed to provide year-round access to nutritious, healthy, and safe food. Unlike a traditional kitchen garden, it integrates crops, livestock, agroforestry, and local biodiversity to improve household nutrition, food security, and income generation.

The approach promotes sustainable farming by using local resources, traditional seeds, organic fertilizers, and climate-resilient technologies. It also supports women's knowledge and participation in food production, preserves indigenous plant varieties, and enhances access to diverse food sources rich in essential vitamins and minerals.

Nutrition gardens contribute to combating malnutrition by providing all major food groups, improving family health, strengthening climate resilience, and supporting integrated ecosystem management. They serve as a nature-positive solution for sustainable livelihoods, particularly for vulnerable communities in the Hindu Kush Himalayan region
