Solar photovoltaic water pumping

The water pumping system has a long history and many methods have been adopted to pump water with minimum effort. A variety of water pumping systems have been developed such as human energy, animal power, hydro-power, wind, solar and fossil fuel generators to pump water. Among these systems solar PV is an efficient option because of its low maintenance, unattended operation, easy installation and long life.  The solar pumps are used principally for village water supply, livestock watering and irrigation. Five different type of solar pumping system technologies are currently used for pumping ground water. These technologies include:

• Submerged multistage centrifugal motor pump set;
• Submerged pump with surface mounted motor;
• Reciprocating positive displacement pump;
• Floating motor pump sets;
• Surface suction pumpsets.
