Global warming - a threat to Mount Everest?

During the last decade there has been a progressive increase in the number of alarms that link Mount Everest, or other glacierised mountain regions, with global warming. Statements have appeared in the news media, electronic communications, environmental and conservationist publications, and the scientific literature. So it is timely to assess the relevancy, accuracy, and effectiveness of this growing trend. The author makes several observations that may arouse a response from the readership.
