Description
Chapter 24 Mountains Systems defines mountains and altitude belts. It describes the conditions and trends in mountain systems such as atmospheric conditions, watersheds, biodiversity and socioeconomy in mountains. The chapter analyses the drivers of change, examines property rights, wars and other conflicts and looks at mountain protected areas. There is consideration of the trade-offs and synergies and management interventions in mountains. Finally, the chapter examines human well-being in mountains, sustainability and vulnerability.
