Climate change and disaster in the Hindukush Himalayan region

Creators

Description

This article discusses the drivers of climate change in the HinduKush Himalayan region. It describes the geological and climatically induced hazards, such as earthquakes, heavy rainfalls, floods, glacial lake outburst floods and landslides, and their impact on the lives and livelihood of the community, as well as on transportation, agriculture and tourism. It claims that the state government has not yet developed any effective strategy to counter disasters and their adverse impacts; and calls for the latter to understand the needs of the Himalayan environment and to develop appropriate policy and mechanisms for preparedness in the context of disasters.
