Proceedings of the regional webinar on harnessing the comparative advantages of black cardamom

  • ICIMOD
  • Summary

Black cardamom (Amomum subulatum) is an important cash crop in all three countries in the Kangchenjunga Landscape – Bhutan, India, and Nepal. These countries are uniquely positioned to capitalize on black cardamom, a species that originated in the landscape and may be marketed as a niche Himalayan product through a geographical indication (GI) tag. Our Kangchenjunga Landscape Conservation and Development Initiative (KLCDI) organized a regional workshop in 2019 to explore opportunities for transboundary collaboration on the black cardamom value chain. Building on the recommendations of this workshop, we organized a webinar in December 2020 to discuss the possibility of a GI tag and common regional standards for black cardamom.
