The health of the Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH) – its cryosphere, hydrosphere, and biosphere – serves as an indicator of the general health of the planet. In August 2019, ICIMOD, Kathmandu University, and the State Key Laboratory of Cryospheric Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences organized the “International Forum on Cryosphere and Society in the HKH: The Voice of the HKH”. The event brought together leading global and regional experts and practitioners, and stakeholders and representatives of local communities to share their insights and perspectives on the intersections of the cryosphere and society, and to articulate a collective voice for the HKH – one that underlines the need to find contextual and pragmatic solutions to the challenges induced by cryosphere changes and their impacts.
