It is a summary for policy makers abstracted from a detailed study of historical perspective on drivers of out-migration in Kailash Sacred landscape in India. The study explores the various events/drivers/policy measure in the last 150 years that has resulted in the present situation of de-population in the mountain areas. The study also reveals the present migration situation and the potential impacts of de-population in mountain areas on the social structures and ecological systems and suggests a way forward.
