Districts of Nepal: Indicators of Development 2001; Update 2003

  • Summary
  • Table of contents (8 chapters)

In 1997, ICIMOD and the Netherlands Development Assistance (SNV-Nepal) prepared a study Districts of Nepal Indicators of Development, which provided an assessment of the comparative development status of Nepal's districts and proved very popular. This book presents the results of a recent update of the study, carried out by ICIMOD and Nepal's Central Bureau of Statistics supported by SNV-Nepal using the data gathered under the tenth National Population Census held by CBS in June 2001, supplemented by other relevant data. As in the previous study, the districts were classed as belonging to one of three levels of development in terms of each of a number of primary indicators, and these were then aggregated to provide three major indices, and a single overall development index. This report provides a useful pointer to the comparative development status of Nepal's districts at present, as well as an indication of the changes that have taken place. It should prove useful to the development community in general, and policy and decision-makers in Nepal in particular, as well as being of interest to a broader audience.
