Local to global-level sustainable mountain development: FAO's recent achievements in implementing its conceptual and operational framework

Description

With its mandate to work on natural resource management, food security and livelihoods and its attention to the social, economic and environmental dimensions of sustainable development, the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has played a leading role in sustainable mountain development for many years. The FAO carries out conceptual work with its 189 member countries. This article gives some examples of the sort of work the FAO is involved in.
