Dhanavahra Vajracarya (1932-1994), historian and academic, was skilled in reading Licchavi and Kutala scripts, as well as other medieval Newari scripts. Working at the Institute of Nepal and Asian Studies, his most important work was the Licchavikalala Abhilekha (1973), a collection of inscriptions from ancient Nepal, transliterated in devanagari script, edited with Nepali translation of the Sanskrit inscriptions. This single work makes Dhanavajra known to a wide national and international audience.
