Weather and climate information services in Pakistan

  • ICIMOD
  • Summary

This infosheet shares key findings from a study of 612 farm households (producing wheat and cotton) from Punjab and Sindh provinces in Pakistan to evaluate the impact of weather and climate information services (WCISs) on farm outcomes from a user perspective. The study evaluated the perceptions of users and non-users of WCISs around the concepts of timeliness, accuracy, and relevance of the WCISs and their impact on key farm outcomes, such as profits, costs, revenue, and inputs usage. WCIS users agreed that these services guided them in making important farming decisions, and farmers also identified areas of improvement for WCISs in Pakistan.

The study was conducted by the University of Leeds and ICIMOD together with the Pakistan Meteorological Department and the Muhammad Nawaz Shareef University of Agriculture, Multan, under the UK Aid-funded Asia Regional Resilience to a Changing Climate programme.
