In the ‘80s and ‘90s, Malaysia made significant economic and social progress, in its determination to gain official developed status by the year 2020. With the increasing liberalization of the broadcasting industry, the government is carefully weighing how to keep apace with global developments and technological advances, without compromising the nation's important value system.
This paper traces Malaysia's gradual privatization policies in telecommunications and broadcasting, and addresses the governments dilemma over the conflict between material and spiritual progress, as more foreign influence are made available.
