The village of Padipur is in the central Terai, a mile away from its district headquarters and three miles from the Indian border. There are 155 households scattered on either side of the cart track going south from the main road. In these 155 households, there are 11 castes. The article analyses their occupations and landholding. The paper provides a study on one village, looking at political attitudes, religion and all aspects of village life.
