Globally the world is seeing increasingly frequent droughts and floods which are having economic but also profound social consequences. The women and people of Asia are currently at greatest risk with over 100 million people affected in this region annually. Adaptation, vulnerability and resilience of people to climate change depend upon a range of conditions. These vary from their degree of exposure and dependency upon weather patterns for livelihoods and food security, to varying capacities in adaptation, which are influenced by gender, social status, economic poverty, power, access, and control and ownership over resources in the household, community and society. Mountain peoples are especially vulnerable since climate impacts and changes are predominantly acute in mountainous regions. This is particularly true in the Andes, Africa and Asia. 000009422 653__ $$aFood security 000009422 653__ $$aLivelihoods 000009422 653__ $$aMountain area 000009422 653__ $$aICIMOD 000009422 650__ $$aClimate change 000009422 650__ $$aAdaptation 000009422 650__ $$aMitigation 000009422 650__ $$aGender and equity 000009422 8560_ $$fajha@icimod.org 000009422 8564_ $$uhttp://www.grida.no/files/publications/women-and-climate-change/rra_gender_screen.pdf$$yDownload 000009422 8564_ $$uhttp://lib.icimod.org/record/9422/files/rra_gender_screen.pdf 000009422 8564_ $$uhttp://lib.icimod.org/record/9422/files/rra_gender_screen.ps.gz 000009422 8564_ $$uhttp://lib.icimod.org/record/9422/files/rra_gender_screen.gif?subformat=icon$$xicon 000009422 8564_ $$uhttp://lib.icimod.org/record/9422/files/rra_gender_screen.gif?subformat=icon-700$$xicon-700 000009422 980__ $$aREPORT
