Description

Bhutan is a small mountainous country located in the eastern Himalayas with a geographical area of 38,394 square kilometres and a population of 757,042 (National Statistics Bureau, 2015). Its population growth rate is 1.13% and the country is characterized by fragile mountainous ecosystems with elevations ranging from 130 masl to over 7,500 masl in the north where Bhutan borders the Tibet Autonomous Region of China.

The Forest Resource Management Division (FRMD), under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests (MoAF), manages Bhutan's forest for sustainable production of economic and environmental goods and services to meet the long term needs of the country.
