Annotation:::: The paper focuses on management of migration, and explores ways of meeting the needs of livelihood of local residents in natural reserves while also protecting local natural resources in Yunnan province. The paper uses the method of empirical study to investigate the World Natural Heritage site of the Stone Forest. After analysing the relationship between the local villagers’ demand for livelihood and the protection of natural reserves, several findings are presented. The villagers living inside the Stone Forest area have excessively extracted natural resources in seeking livelihood and development, thus bringing about great difficulties to the protection of the World Natural Heritage area. Also, development of local tourism has contributed to resolving conflicts between the local villagers’ demand for livelihood and the environmental protection because tourism development backed by local government can provide more jobs to the resettlers who have moved from natural reserves. Additionally, the authors state that eco-migration becomes a prerequisite to local development of tourism.
