  • Summary
Annotation:::: This paper focuses on participation in resettlement activities among people being relocated. It uses on-site investigation and documental assessment to analyse resettlement and the legal framework of resettlers’ participation. The paper finds that providing participation and consultation activities during the process of resettlement planning, implementation, and management can help reduce feelings of resettlers’ of being cheated. These activities can also provide resettlers with knowledge and decision making at different stages of resettlement, such as social-economic investigation, plan formulation, moving, income restoration, supervision, and management. Sufficient participation in the process allows resettlers to better understand resettlement policy and make their own choices about livelihood restoration and development. This research is related to case studies of constructing participation capacities in Chinese communities, which is a research project funded by DFID, British Department for International Development.
