Local People’s Worries Have Been Eliminated through Relocation of Emigrants in Mangshi Township

  • Yang, Q. J.
  • Summary
Annotation :::: Regarding the situation in which many poor people resided in mountain areas and in a large area of poverty, leaders of Mangshi township, Luxi city, Dehong prefecture, Yunnan province placed a focus on immediate work on rural areas, and initiated varied efforts and investigations. After recognizing that some mountain people’s lives and production were threatened by geological disasters like mud-rock flow and landslides, and they were eager to move out, leaders of the township committed to finding new and appropriate resettlements for the mountain people. By mid-2006, the township completed the work of requesting land and planning resettlement, the construction of facilities for water supply, power supply, and traffic. The first 21 households suffering from extremely severe geological disasters moved into the newly built resettlement. In addition, the township identified the urgent need to relocate 140 households from five other mountain villages.
