Migration and Rural Women's Development

  • Zheng, Z. Z.
  • Summary
Annotation :::: The book focuses on the sociological study of migration and rural women’s development, and discusses the issue of women’s migration and some related research. Using gender analysis and the method of documental study, the author finds that there are significant differences between women migrants and women non-migrants with regard to their ideas, protecting their rights and interests, pursuit of ideal circumstances, and fertility behaviour. Migration has caused changes in the social role and status of women in mountain villages, and women migrants do not need to do purely farm work in their home villages anymore. Women migrants in cities have not only promoted the economic, cultural, and ideological progress in mountain villages, but they have also enhanced the pace of urban construction. The role of women migrants has drawn the interest of domestic and foreign scholars alike, and those scholars began to use population analysis techniques to study women migrants and their concerns, including self-development and reproductive health.
