A Research on the Status Quo of the Rural Women Migrants

  • Sun, Y. J.
  • T., Q.
  • Summary
Annotation :::: The paper focuses on women mountain migrants working in an urban area, and and explores the situation and problems faced by this group. Using methods of gender analysis and comparative study, the authors find that as a result of the market-oriented economy, developed eastern areas have attracted many people from the west, particularly rural mountain people, thus causing an unprecedented expansion of migration across China. Among these migrants, rural women migrants represent a special group. Rural women between the ages of 16 and 20 have even stronger aspirations for migration than their male counterparts and have a higher success ratio of migration. However, they are vulnerable to outside dangers because of special psychological and physical characteristics. Appropriate legal and institutional frameworks must be put in place to safeguard the rights of survival and development of rural women migrants, and to deal with their concerns so they can live in coexistence with people in the local society.
