Investigating the Mountainous Poor Women’s Participation in the Management of Forest Reserves: Case of Ledegu Village, Qinggangling Hui and Yi Township, Zhaoyang District

  • Hua, Y. Q.
  • Summary
Annotation :::: The paper focuses on rural development, and examines the participation of impoverished mountainous women in the management of forest reserves. Using the methods of documental study and on-site investigation, the paper finds that with more men going out for work, women in mountain areas have gradually become the main force for managing forest reserves. However, they have faced many difficulties in participating in management due to constraints imposed by traditional ideas, the relatively lower cultural level, and the limitations of physiological characteristics. The author states that it is necessary to correctly understand the link between women and the sustainable utilization of mountain resources, and increase the proportion of women and their ability to take part in activities outside of the family so as to offer more policy-making opportunities for women’s participation in the management of forest reserves. Support and encouragement from the government are also needed for improving women’s educational opportunities, self-development, and their level of organization.
