  • Wang, D. P.
  • et al.
  • Summary
Annotation :::: The paper is a demographic study of young rural migrant workers and their support of the elderly remaining in home villages, as part of analysing the relationship between mountain migration and remittances. The authors conduct quantitative research on the impact of this kind of economic support. According to the findings of the paper, traditional culture and social customs contribute to the desire among most young migrant workers to support their parents left behind. Also, there is a positive correlation between the younger generation’s emigration for work and the remittances supporting their parents. Lastly, elderly people who do not have individual incomes and are ill, weak and remain in rural mountain villages depend more on the remittances from their sons and daughters who are migrant workers.
