ICIMOD organised an International Symposium ‘Benefiting from Earth Observation: Bridging the Data Gap for Adaptation to Climate Change in the Hindu Kush-Himalayas’ from 4 to 6 October 2010, in partnership with Global Earth Observation (GEO), supported by USAID, NASA, GIZ, and SIDA, and in collaboration with the Government of Nepal, UNEP, WMO, and the regional space and remote sensing agencies SPARSSO, CMA, ISRO, and SUPARCO. The symposium had more than 250 participants from 24 countries; 68 papers were presented in 7 thematic sessions. This publication contains a summary report of the proceedings of the symposium and three related pre and post-symposium events: Youth Forum, Workshop on Space-based Information for Disaster Preparedness and Risk Management, and Inception Workshop for SERVIR-Himalaya. Supplementary material is included on a DVD (programme, abstracts, presentations, photos, and others).
