The Yi tourist trade success came to the attention of the local Naxi government authorities who attracted funds from business men in Hong Kong to construct a chairlift from the main road that leads north from Lijiang up to the Love-Suicide Meadow. By October 1995, only twelve months after opening, the chairlift had been amortized and business had exceeded 10,000 persons per year: 1994
