Description: UN-ISDR interdisciplinary team to gauge the potential danger of drainage of Lake Sarez in the High Pamir (June, 1999). This view from a helicopter shows Lake Sarez and the Usoi landslide dam. The landslide was caused by a high magnitude earthquake in 1911. By 1999 the volume of the lake, that had accumulated behind the dam, was equal to between one half and three-quarters the volume of Lake Geneva.
