Deforestation and forest degradation, through agricultural expansion, conversion to pastureland, infrastructure development, unsustainable logging practices, fires, etc., accounts for nearly 20% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, more than the entire global transportation sector and second only to the energy sector.
