As defined by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), climate change refers to a statistically significant variation in either the mean state of the climate or in its variability, persisting for an extended period (typically decades or longer). Climate change may be due to natural internal processes or external forcing, or to persistent anthropogenic changes in the composition of the atmosphere or in land use. Magnitude and scale of climate change can be experienced in a particular region or at a global scale that affects the whole earth. In recent practices, especially in the context of international environmental deals, climate change usually refers to changes in modern climate, more preciously ‘anthropogenic climate change’, more generally known as global warming.
