  • Summary
This report details different approaches in helping biodiversity specialists strengthen their communications strategies. The report contains five articles covering a wide range of issues, including, the historical factors that affect the rights of indigenous peoples, the role of culture in small island settings, the roles of scientists and journalists, environmental issues in the United States, and the importance of economic policy making. The report argues that the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and other recent international meetings have identified the need to raise a higher state awareness among the public, as well as decision-makers, about the urgent priority of biodiversity loss. The report raises the question of how to raise wider awareness. The authors claim that this is an issue for everyone engaged with conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity, not just the RSPB. The report calls on countries to meet their commitments in providing financial support to developing countries.
