Gender-disaggregated data in agriculture and rural development

  • Hill, C. L.
  • Summary
This manual is based upon the premise that improving food security and people’s livelihoods is complex and calls for a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach. This paper also reflects increasing demands for FAO to collect and make accessible gender-disaggregated data and statistics for agricultural policy formulation and planning. This package of facilitation materials, has been been prepared to assist in the process of building capacity of those involved in producing agricultural data and statistics. It is intended to improve producers’ abilities to integrate a gender perspective in the design, collection, tabulation, analysis, interpretation and presentation of agricultural information. The guide is intended for use by those seeking to facilitate change in approaches to policy and planning design within agricultural ministries, national statistics offices, and other relevant institutions. This guide contains several materials useful to facilitators planning and conducting a workshop on gender-disaggregated data (GDD) for agriculture and rural development, including:
  • materials for a ten-day workshop on gender-disaggregated data for agriculture and rural development;
  • handouts to be used in the overall GDD workshop, and on adult learning;
  • sample Tabulation Plans;
  • module/follow-up workshop.
The training materials and methodology in this package were adapted from various sources or developed in one of the three workshops held in Namibia, Uganda and Zambia.
