Global Challenge, Global Opportunity: Critical trends in Sustainable Development

  • Summary
Sustainable development, as a complex process with many interacting factors, requires the participation of all members of society, as public policy makers, producers, consumers, scientists, engineers, educators, communicators, community activists and voters. The purpose of this publication is to present, for a general audience, basic information on some current conditions, recent trends and future projections in these areas of sustainable development. It is hoped that this publication will contribute to the Johannesburg process and its follow-up by encouraging people to learn more about sustainable development and by mobilizing people in their various social roles to promote sustainable development for present and future generations.
