The project on Pro-poor Tourism Strategies (2000?2001) was designed to assess what was already being done in different countries to develop ?pro-poor tourism? (PPT), to assess
preliminary impacts, and to identify ?good practice? lessons of use to others. Six case studies were chosen to cover a range of countries, and a spread of types of initiatives and implementers (government, NGO, business). Each case study was an ?initiative? of some form, that was designed to benefit the poor, among other objectives. They were not explicitly called ?pro-poor tourism? initiatives, but were selected because they were up-and-running initiatives that could show some impacts on the poor, useful strategies, and problems encountered.
