Call me uncle: An outsider's experience of Nepali kinship

  • Turin, M.
  • Summary
The kinship terminology of any language is a natural meeting point for the disciplines of anthropology and linguistics. The manner in which people construct and understand their relationships with others has a direct impact on the words they use to describe these relationships. In this short article, the author focuses on the kinship system of Nepali and demonstrates its subtleties, especially in its application to non-Nepalis.
