Flawed precepts and distorted interpretations

  • Kumar, D.
  • Summary
Review of: Pokherel, J. C.; 1996, Environmental Resource Negotiation Btween Unequal Powers. Vikas Publishing House, New Delhi, India. This book attempts to build a conceptual framework on negotiation by particularly applying Roger Fisher's works on Negotiating Power. Studies on negotiation from a weak nation's perspective and strategies pursued by weak nations in enhancing power are of considerable interest particularly in Nepal, which has signed a series agreements on sharing water resources with India, including the Mahakali Integrated Development Treaty in 1996. The issue of environmental resources negotiation of which water resources constitute an integral part in the history of Nepal-India relations has been a mosaic of both discord and collaboration. Case studies on the Karnali project along with case studies from Bangladesh and India, and Panama and the United States make up case studies in this book.
